Custom Plates
Required Information

Valid Identification: The owner is required to present a valid form of identification to complete the custom plates process. This can include a state-issued driver's license or ID card.
Current Vehicle Registration: The owner must provide the current vehicle registration document to verify ownership and registration status.
Application for Custom Plates: The vehicle owner must fill out the Application for Special Interest License Plates (REG 17), ensuring all sections are accurately completed and desired plate configuration is clearly indicated.
Proof of Eligibility: Depending on the type of custom plate requested, the owner may need to provide proof of eligibility. For example, some special interest plates may require membership documentation or proof of affiliation.
Submission of Documentation: The completed application and any additional required documents, such as proof of eligibility, must be submitted to our office for processing.
Fees: Payment of the required fees for custom plates, which can include an initial fee and an annual renewal fee. Check with our office for the specific fee schedule.
Smog Certification: If the vehicle is subject to smog inspection, ensure you have a valid smog certificate from a DMV-approved station, issued within the last 90 days, unless the vehicle is exempt.
