Lien Sales
Required Information
Valid Identification: The owner is required to present a valid form of identification to complete the lien sales process. This can include a state-issued driver's license or ID card.

Proof of Ownership: The owner must provide proof of ownership, such as the vehicle title or a notarized bill of sale.

Complete Lien Sale Form: The vehicle owner must fill out the Application for Lien Sale Authorization (REG 168A), ensuring all sections are accurately completed.

Submission of Documentation: The completed application and any additional required documents, such as the Notice of Pending Lien Sale (REG 168), must be submitted to our office.

Notice of Lien Sale: Provide a copy of the Notice of Lien Sale, sent to the registered owner and all interested parties, 10 days prior to the sale date.
​
Smog Certification: In compliance with California's environmental regulations, the buyer must obtain a valid smog certificate, issued within the last 90 days, unless the vehicle is exempt from smog requirements.
